Cock of the North!
Cock of the North!
17th May 2009
Kent Estuary YFC won the prestigious Cock of the North Trophy at the annual Cumbrian Southern District Field Day.
The Field day held at Low Foulshaw farm by kind permission of the Geldard family was a great day out for all, in particular local club Kent Estuary who took the top honours.
Members from clubs across South Cumbria competed in a huge range of competitions including Arm wrestling, Stock Judging, Flower arranging, Cookery, Crafts, Boys hairdressing, egg throwing, worm charming, singing and dancing and of course fancy dress
Heaves Farm’s very own Gary and Lisa Mason took leading roles in the day, Gary as Field Day Chairman and Lisa as Field Day secretary, both instrumental in the many months of hard work it took to organise the event and ensure it all ran smoothly on the day.
Lisa reports:
“Since the day we’ve found out we had record attendance at the gate and I am glad to say I have received fantastic feedback from the public, stewards, judges and members. People are truly impressed with the quality of exhibits, the high level of skill and most importantly the attitude of Southern District Young Farmers and it makes me very proud to have been involved. A huge thanks to everyone involved but especially the Geldard family, Jan, Dorrie (legend), Stephen Rowlinson, Gavin, Rob, Anne, Emma, Ange, Simmy and all of Kent Estuary advisory and members for helping us to host the best Field Day the Southern District has ever seen.”
