School open days 2009

The third biannual school farm open days took place at Heaves Farm. Organised by Westmorland County Agricultural Society, over 1000 primary school children attended over 2 days.

There was mixed weather across the 2 days, but spirits weren’t dampened and all the children really enjoyed experiencing a wide array of Lakeland farming activities, from sheep shearing to cow milking, from egg laying to dry stone walling and sheep dog trailing. This year, the children were introduced to the happy calves of Heaves Farm Veal for the first time, where Heaves Farm’s Roger Mason explained the ins and outs of British rose veal.
