Heaves Farm Veal features in an article in this weeks Westmorland Gazette. The Gazette;s food writer Gillian Cowburn interviewed Roger and Gary for a feature in the Food & Drink pages of the Gazette’s ‘Leisure’ pullout where she explores the facts about rosé veal and experiences the delights of trying it for herself.

‘Making the connection’ between farm and plate is an oft-used phrase in the local food scheme of things.

Which is why, ten minutes after visiting dairy farmer Roger Mason at Heaves, near Kendal, I was in Plumgarths farm shop just a few miles up the road making a very special purchase........’

WCAS school farm
open days
Heaves Farm again hosted the Westmorland Agricultural Society (WCAS) school farm open days. Held over 2 days, 1300 children attended from 29 schools across the region where they experienced some of the things that take place on a modern farm.

Lots of help was provided from volunteers young and old, who gave demonstrations including sheep shearing and showering, milking cows, dry stone walling, working sheep dogs, hatching eggs and taking the children on a nature walk. As well as being a great hands on learning experience it also helps to help make the connection with the origins of food.
